Young Speakers Scotland’s success is boosted by recent financial awards
Young Speakers Scotland is entering a new academic year buoyed by generous new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, The Dr David Summers Charitable Trust and generous donations from individual donors. These recent awards demonstrate widespread support for our vision of enabling young people across Scotland to realise their potential through confident communication.
Focused primarily on our flagship Speak Up Scotland programme, this latest round of funding totals £13,000.
Speak Up Scotland provides free workshops to state schools from the Highlands to the Borders, using debating and public speaking as tools to help young people develop essential skills such as teamwork, critical thinking and confidence.
Our particular focus on schools in deprived areas means we are committed to reducing the poverty-related attainment gap. We believe the school a young person attends should never dictate their opportunities.
Gurvinder Brar, Chair of Young Speakers Scotland, said:
“We are very grateful for the support of our donors, who will enable us to build on our successes so far and increase our impact. Last year, we delivered more than 60 workshops, supporting over 1,000 pupils from local authority schools across Scotland to find their voice and communicate with confidence.”
The continued support of charitable trusts, foundations, and individual donors allows Young Speakers Scotland to expand its reach and help ensure that opportunities to develop communication skills are open to every young person, regardless of background.
