Congratulations to the Scottish Teams that took part in the finals day of the Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition over the weekend.

This is one of the most competitive schools debating competitions in the world, with 120 teams taking part in the finals day alone. Just making it this far is a phenomenal achievement.

Scottish teams performed brilliantly with Dollar Academy making the final four and earning a spot in the Grand Final, which took place in the prestigious debating chamber of the Oxford Union. St Columba’s finished 9th overall and Broxburn Academy finished 11th.

Scotland was also very well-represented on the speaker tab. Logan Moss from Dollar Academy was the 5th best speaker, Sophie Hannigan from St Columba’s ranked fifth and Natalie Yeung from Dollar Academy tied in 11th place with Sarah Pym from Broxburn Academy.  Lena Zielinska from Broxburn Academy was also the 4th best English second-language speaker.

This is an excellent showing for Scotland at an international tournament with 240 speakers. We can’t wait to welcome Dollar Academy, St. Columba’s School and Broxburn Academy to our Schools’ Mace Final in May.
